What happens during a check
How ProvSeal reads media, parses evidence and evaluates trust status.
- Read supported mediaThe extension reads the selected file or visible page media in the browser context.
- Parse C2PA evidenceIf C2PA data is present, the extension extracts manifest, claim and assertion information.
- Validate signature and integrityThe report explains whether the media still matches the signed provenance evidence.
- Evaluate trust statusThe certificate chain is used to determine whether the signature is Trusted, Not recognised, Invalid or No information.
Interpret the result carefully
Status labels explain available evidence — they are not truth verdicts.
TrustedValid Content Credentials with a recognized certificate chain.
- Not recognised
The signature can be valid while public trust is not recognized.
- Invalid
C2PA data exists, but signature or integrity validation failed.
- No information
No C2PA evidence was detected. This does not mean the content is fake.
